Call For Submissions: Short Story Contest

Cressy Lakeside Books thanks all our authors for your submissions. The anthology of successful submissions will be published in spring 2018. The contest is now closed. Stay tuned for news about the upcoming anthology!

Eligibility:

Entrants must be residents of Prince Edward County.

A mailing address in Prince Edward County must be included with all submissions.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions may be short fiction in any genre, including excerpts from an unpublished novel, to a maximum word count of 6000.

Entries must be unpublished and not currently under consideration by other publishers.

Only one (1) submission per author will be accepted.

Submissions may be made electronically or in hard copy.

Text should be in Times New Roman, minimum 12 point font size, and double spaced.

All pages must have a footer with page numbers and the title [or indication of the title].

Please include title of work, author’s name and contact info (mailing address, phone number and email address) in a covering page. Do not include author’s name or other identifying information in the manuscript. Note: hard copy manuscripts will not be returned.

Electronic submissions must be in PDF and sent as an attachment in an email to contest@cressylakesidebooks.ca with subject line: Short Story Contest.

Hard copy submissions: Please include three (3) copies of your manuscript and your entry fee. Mail to:

Deadline:

The contest is now closed. Selected authors will be notified by January 15, 2018.

Entry fee:

A $25 entry fee is to cover administrative costs.

Entry fee is due upon submission and is payable by Paypal (see “Add to cart” button below) or by cash or personal cheque to:

Author Rights & Recognition:

The author retains copyright to his/her/their stories.

Authors acknowledge that Cressy Lakeside Books may edit their submissions for publication. Any substantial editorial changes will be reviewed with the author in advance of publication.

By submitting their work, the selected authors irrevocably permit Cressy Lakeside Books to print and sell their work in the print and epub versions of the anthology and further permit their stories to be recorded and read for spoken word transmission.

Payment:

Each author will receive two (2) complementary copies of the anthology.

All funds received through the sale of the Anthology belong to Cressy Lakeside Books and will be used for the intended applications as set out below.

Publication & Distribution:

Cressy Lakeside Books will publish a first edition of 500 copies in spring 2018. If, in the estimation of CLB, there is sufficient demand, it will publish additional editions. Cressy Lakeside Books will cover all costs of publication and promotion.

This is a not-for-profit project. After all expenses are paid and if there is a profit, any such profit shall, in the discretion of CLB, be retained and applied to the publication of work by a Prince Edward County author (not one of the principals of CLB nor an immediate family member of such principals), or donated to a Prince Edward County based organization that promotes the advancement of literacy.
